A swale is a low depression in a lawn designed to carry a large amount of surface water. Many times homes have a common swale between their side yards. Builders contour new yards with swales to carry water away from homes when they are built. Over time, yards are changed or settle and sometimes a swale needs to be created to carry water away. A swale can be a part of a simple and economical regarding plan to protect your home against drainage issues.
